This weekends race was the North of England Cyclo-Cross championships held at Yorks Sports Village. This was a mixed terrain course which incorporated part of the road circuit as well as a vicious off camber climb to the top of the course followed by a sweeping descent, the usual dead turns and careful use of banking to set up a fast but testing course. In the Youth race Harrogate Novas Dylan Flesher came home 13th followed by Louis Mason in 58th and Gus Gardner in 63rd. Next off were the over 50’s men and all the women. Nick Mason came in 27th and Tim Evans 30th. However, the ride of the race was Alison Sarmiento who came in 11th Lady and 3rd Veteran to pick up a Championship medal. In the Vet 40’s and Juniors Bobbin Gardner came home 7th in the juniors and the local Veterans were led home by Steve Smales in 22nd followed by Paul Lehan 34th and Ted Sarmiento 59th. With a late start and finishing in fading light the main championship race was won by Hope’s Paul Oldham with Edwyn Oliver-Evans coming in 12th and 3rd Under 23 followed by Dave Morris in 15th. The previous weekend Steve Smales competed in the 4th round of the National Trophy in Milton Keynes finishing 25th , whilst Paul Lamb and Neil Mclaughlin went to Barnard Castle and finished 25th and 39th respectively. Next weekend sees the 5th round of the National Trophy series at Peel Park in Bradford.
